Frequently Asked Questions
View answers to our frequently asked questions below. If you have a question that is not answered on this page, please contact us.
Where can I purchase your products?
Weeks Dye Works is a wholesale only company and doesn’t sell directly to consumers. To find our products, check with your locally owned needlework shop (LNS).
Are your products colorfast?
Most of our thread is colorfast, meaning they retain their original hue without fading or running. To achieve a consistent, colorfast fiber, we top wash our products at high temperature with water and soap, which removes excess dye from the fiber. A select number of our highly variegated colors are not colorfast; these are typically found in our Holiday Collection.
Can final stitchwork projects be washed?
While the majority of our thread is colorfast and will not run, we recommend not washing your final project. Although every effort is made to ensure our products are run-free, a limited amount of excess dye may still be retained in fibers.
Where do you manufacture your products?
One hundred percent of our products are hand-dyed in our facility in Garner, North Carolina.
How do you develop new colors?
Most of our new colors are generated via designer request or colors inspired by nature. We strive to offer a vast array of products along the color spectrum to make every stitcher’s project unique.
How do your colors get their names?
This is truly our most frequently asked question. Occasionally the name comes first, but more often we start with the color itself. Once the color is developed, the fun starts. From office chats to Sunday dinners, a group effort tends to lead to the final name. And while we simply offer navy and beige, we have a few gems like “collards” and “peach fuzz”. There truly is no rhyme or reason to it; we just let our minds go free and let the colors speak to us.
Is your facility open to the public?
Because we are a manufacturing site, our facility is not open to the public. There is no retail space onsite.
What is the size of your fat quarters?
Our fat quarters of wool fabric measure approximately 16” x 24”. This represents the final size after the dyeing process.
Do you have minimums for wholesale orders?
We believe in supporting others in the industry and therefore do not require minimums for wholesale orders.
Are your colors consistent?
Yes, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality and consistent colors. We start with the best available fibers and utilize strict dyeing formulas to deliver consistent and vibrant colors that customers can expect to be the same from one project to the next.
What are over-dyed threads?
Over-dyed threads are dyed at least twice with a secondary color being applied to a previously dyed fiber. This process results in distinct colors that gives each finished product a unique and dynamic look. Most of our colors are tone-on-tone, subtle variegations. We also offer numerous colors that are highly variegated.
